Siding, decks, fences, metal roofs and garage doors across Bridlewood, Katimavik, Beaverbrook, Glen Cairn and the newer west-end builds.
Kanata is mostly subdivision housing built from the 1980s onward, which means a lot of vinyl and engineered siding, attached garages facing the street, and back decks that all went in within a few years of each other.
That last part matters. When a whole street was built at once, the decks and fences all reach the end of their finish at the same time, and everyone notices at once.
North Kanata adds a commercial layer through the business park, along with the industrial units and equipment on the edges of it.
Whole streets built in one go means whole streets of pressure treated wood that has gone grey on the same schedule. Horizontal deck boards always fail before the railings.
Painted with the right product and a sensible colour, vinyl takes a coating well. Going much darker than the original is the mistake worth avoiding on a sun-facing wall.
West-end subdivisions put the garage front and centre. A salt-pitted door drags the whole house down and it is the cheapest thing on the list to fix.
